Cold air leaking around old windows is one of the cheapest winter problems to fix. An indoor shrink film kit is a clear plastic sheet that sticks to the window frame with double-sided tape and tightens with a hair dryer. It creates a sealed layer of air that helps cut drafts and window condensation. Here are six window insulation products Canadians are buying on Amazon.ca this week.

Duck Brand Window Insulation Kit, rolled film, 10 windows

Best for renters and anyone with several standard windows. The film comes on a roll, so you cut it to size instead of buying one pre-cut sheet per window. It was a Bestseller on Amazon.ca, and the listing showed 2,000 or more bought in the past month.
- Price: $20.31, with a 4.4 out of 5 rating from about 5,700 ratings
- Covers up to 10 windows, according to the listing
- 62 in by 420 in of film, plus window kit tape
- Tools needed: scissors and a hair dryer
The listing says the film is clear once installed and removes easily at the end of the season. Our caution: shrink film is a one-season product, so plan to buy a fresh kit each year.

3M Indoor Window Insulation Kit, 5 windows

Best for people who want the best-known name and pre-sized sheets. It has the most ratings of any kit here, at about 18,200.
- Price: $34.57 (list price $36.22), with a 4.0 out of 5 rating
- Fits five windows of 3 ft by 5 ft
- Includes heat shrink film and Scotch window film mounting tape
- The listing says it reduces condensation and frost buildup
It costs more per window than the rolled kits. You are paying for the brand and the ready-cut sheets.

Frost King V73/9H Indoor Shrink Window Kit, 9-pack

Best for a whole-house job on a budget. Nine pre-cut sheets of 42 in by 62 in work out to about $3.12 a sheet.
- Price: $28.10, with a 4.1 out of 5 rating from about 15,800 ratings
- Nine sheets, each 42 in by 62 in
- Clear film for indoor use
Amazon’s customer summary on the listing calls it durable and easy to use. It also carries a caution: you will need to take it off to open the windows in warmer months, and sunlight and normal stress can make the tape fail over time.

Frost King V76H Shrink Window Kit for large windows and patio doors

Best for a sliding patio door or one oversized window. Standard kits often do not fit these, so a single large sheet is the simpler fix.
- Price: $13.16, with a 4.2 out of 5 rating from about 7,400 ratings
- Sheet size: 84 in by 110 in
- The listing showed 500 or more bought in the past month
Amazon’s customer summary describes it as durable and easy to use. At $13.16 it is the cheapest product on this list.

Duck MAX Strength Window Insulation Kit, patio doors, 2-pack

Best for drafty patio doors where a thicker film is worth paying for. It has the highest rating on this list, though with far fewer ratings than the big sellers.
- Price: $34.61, with a 4.6 out of 5 rating from about 316 ratings
- Two rolls of 84 in by 120 in film and two rolls of tape, 0.5 in by 54 ft
- The listing says the film is puncture-resistant and twice as thick as standard kits
- Can cover up to two extra-large windows or patio doors, per the listing

XFasten Transparent Window Weather Sealing Tape

Best for sealing gaps around window sashes and frames without covering the whole window. It is a clear tape you press over the seam, so it suits spots where a full film kit is overkill.
- Price: $15.99 (list price $25.99), with a 4.2 out of 5 rating from about 11,000 ratings
- Size: 2 in by 30 yards
- The listing showed 800 or more bought in the past month
- The seller says it removes cleanly with no residue

How to install shrink film
The kits listed above share the same basic steps. Clean and dry the window frame, stick the double-sided tape around the frame, press the film onto the tape, then run a hair dryer over the film until it pulls tight. The Duck listings say to apply the film indoors on clean, dry surfaces, and that scissors and a hair dryer are the only tools needed. Kits are meant for indoor use; check the packaging before you apply one outside.
Shrink film helps with drafts, but it will not fix a window that is failing. For help with heating costs, see our guide to energy bill grants by province, or read how to reduce window condensation in winter.
How we chose
We looked at the Amazon.ca results for window insulation kits and picked products from known brands with large numbers of ratings, across different window sizes and budgets. We did not test any of them. Prices are accurate as of Nov. 2, 2026, and may change. Ratings come from the listings. Our summary of what buyers say comes from the customer summary on each listing, not from a full read of the reviews.
