A busy night in the NHL includes an Atlantic Division battle between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. These division opponents have not yet faced off this season, and it is the first of three matchups this year. At the beginning of the season, these teams were expected to be much closer in the standings, but with an overachieving Bruins team and underachieving Senators team, they are far away in the standings.
Boston will be playing in their second game in as many nights and they are the road team, but I still see them earning the win. However the better choice for this game is to take the over. In Ottawa’s recent stretch of decent hockey, they have been scoring at a strong rate. In their last six games, they have scored 25 goals (4.2 goals per game), which is a pace they expected from their young and skilled team. While Boston is typically a strong defensive team, the fact they are playing in their second game in as many nights, means they may not be as sharp. Even if their defensive play is weaker, they should have no problems offensively as one of the best scoring teams in the entire NHL. Let’s take the over for this game.
