Of the 365 new cases, 233 were identified in Winnipeg, which has been battered by the virus now for weeks. Another 91 cases were found in the Southern Health region, which moved to Critical (Red) under the pandemic response system on Monday. Sixteen more cases were found in both the Interlake-Eastern and Northern health regions, while an additional nine were reported in Prairie Mountain.
Manitoba’s COVID-19 case total is now at 8,495, and the active caseload, while not accurate due to a backlog of recoveries, sits above 5,000 for the first time, now at 5,152.
There have been 3,234 recoveries reported.
The three new deaths came in a man in his 70s and a man in his 90s, both from the Southern Health region, while the third death, a woman in her 80s, was linked to the outbreak at Victoria General Hospital.
Manitoba’s death toll now sits at 109 after eclipsing the century mark over the weekend.
As far as Remembrance Day goes, Roussin stressed that people simply cannot gather in person.
A record-high 192 people are now hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 28 current in intensive care — also a pandemic high.
Manitoba’s test positivity jumped to 9.5%, also a new record. Winnipeg’s test positivity rate is at 9.3%.
Laboratory numbers show 3,143 tests were completed yesterday, bringing the total number completed since early February to 288,568.
Health-care worker dies
A health-care worker at Victoria General Hospital has died, Shared Health chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa said Monday.
