Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton has been ruled out of Sunday night’s NFC East clash against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rookie Ben DiNucci will start under centre for the Cowboys in place of Dalton, who suffered a concussion in last Sunday’s loss to the Washington Football Team after a hit to the head by linebacker Jon Bostic. Dalton left the game immediately and did not return, while Bostic was ejected from the game but did not receive supplemental discipline from the NFL for the hit.
DiNucci went 2-for-3 for 39 yards passing and was sacked three times in relief of Dalton against Washington. The 2020 seventh-rounder will be the third QB to start for Dallas this season as Dalton was already playing in place of Dak Prescott, who suffered compound fracture and dislocation to his right ankle in Week 5.
In positive news on the injury front, the Cowboys activated linebacker Sean Lee and centre Joe Looney were both activated from injured reserve on Saturday.
Dallas’s Week 8 opponent, the 2-4-1 Eagles, are finally getting healthy. Tight end Dallas Goedert, left tackle Jason Peters and first-round receiver Jalen Reagor were all activated from IR on Saturday and expected to play Sunday.
Despite being two games below .500, Philadelphia leads the NFC East through seven weeks heading into Sunday night’s big clash against Dallas and can increase its lead with a victory.
