There are many factors that can eventually contribute to dementia. Some factors, such as age, family history and down syndrome can’t be changed. Other risk factors that may be managed include diet and exercise, drinking too much alcohol, cardiovascular risk factors (such as high blood pressure,high cholesterol and diabetes), depression, sleep problems, and low levels of certain vitamins and nutrients.
Tips to prevent dementia or reduce your risk include: keep your mind active, quit smoking, get enough vitamins, manage cardiovascular risk factors, treat health conditions, and get good-quality sleep.
