“The federal government is failing Canadians,” Shandro said in a statement. “Prime Minister Trudeau, Health Minister Hajdu, and Public Services and Procurement Minister Anand need to come clean with Canadians and fix this now.”
He’s right, they do need to come clean and they need to be the ones making these announcements and answering questions. Trudeau didn’t even show up to answer questions in the House of Commons and he didn’t mention this yesterday when he was there even though his government clearly knew about these changes.
Instead, he sent out Fortin to do his dirty work.
And Fortin looked more than a little uncomfortable as he spoke of the reduced shipments and the changes in counting doses that Pfizer wants to bring about. In fact, it took questions from several journalists just to get a clear sense of what is happening.
Pfizer wants to start counting every vial of vaccine as six doses instead of five. That’s how they plan on meeting their contractual obligation of 4 million doses by the end of March.
Some clinics can easily get the sixth dose from each vial, others are not as successful. It takes the right needle and some skill. Bottom line, it won’t happen in every case.
Canada’s vaccine program has gone from bad to worse in the last few weeks. We do need a strong voice to advocate for this country but we aren’t getting one in the Trudeau government.
