Three arrests in restaurant assault
Members of the Guelph Police Service General Investigations Unit have concluded an investigation into an incident that occurred on December 11, 2021.
On that date, police responded to a restaurant in the south end of Guelph, where there was a report of a male being assaulted. Police allege that hate or bias is part of this incident.
The General Investigations Unit took over the investigation and followed several leads. On Monday, December 27, two 15-year-old Guelph males were arrested and charged with assault. On Tuesday, December 28, a Guelph male that was 17 years old at the time of the incident was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5,000. All were released with court dates in February.
The Guelph Police Service would like to thank the citizens that took time to assist in the investigation.
Male arrested for porch thefts
A Kitchener male faces charges after someone was reported to be stealing packages off porches in Guelph early Wednesday.
Approximately 3:25 a.m., the Guelph Police Service was called to the area of Victoria Road North and Eastview Road after a witness saw someone stealing packages. Officers located a male on Glenburnie Drive who matched the description and detained him pending further investigation.
Officers followed fresh footprints from the male’s location and found Amazon packaging in the backyard of a nearby residence.
A 35-year-old Kitchener male is charged with theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property and trespass by night. He will appear in a Guelph court February 18, 2022.
Grandma’s ring stolen in break and enter
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a large amount of property, including a ring with great sentimental value, was stolen from a downtown apartment over the Christmas holiday.
Officers were called Tuesday evening to an apartment unit on Wyndham Street North where the tenants reported they just got home and discovered items missing.
Stolen property included video game systems and accessories, a tablet and jewellery including the tenant’s grandmother’s wedding ring on a gold chain.

Trailer broken into
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a quantity of tools were stolen from a utility trailer.
Officers were called Tuesday afternoon to a commercial property on Waterloo Avenue near Wellington Street West. The facility manager advised a trailer parked on the property had been entered during the previous couple of days after a padlock was broken off. A quantity of tools were stolen.
