Male arrested after taking off on police
A Guelph male faces several charges after colliding with another vehicle while fleeing police on Friday.
Approximately 4:20 p.m., Guelph Police Service officers were patrolling on Silvercreek Parkway North when they spotted a male driving. Officers knew him to be a prohibited driver and also wanted on outstanding warrants. After making eye contact with an officer the male fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety. Information was received the vehicle ran two red lights and was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Speedvale Avenue East and Imperial Road North. There were no injuries reported.
The male eventually abandoned the vehicle but was located with the assistance of a canine unit. A search incident to arrest revealed he was in possession of crack cocaine.
A 31-year-old Guelph male faces charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, driving while prohibited, failing to stop at a collision and possessing a controlled substance. He was held to appear in bail court Monday.
Youth faces weapons charges
A Guelph youth faces weapons charges after a disturbance Saturday evening.
Just before 6 p.m. members of the Guelph Police Service attended the area of Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North, where approximately 20 youths had gathered for a pre-arranged fight. One of the youths pulled a knife and brandished it towards another youth. No physical injuries were reported.
A 16-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. He will appear in a Guelph court November 16, 2022.
$25k in tools stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after approximately $25,000 in tools were stolen from work vans at a local business.
Officers were called Sunday morning to a business in the area of York Road and Watson Road South. Staff had arrived to find eight work vehicles damaged, including windows smashed and doors pried open rendering them inoperable.
Full tool kits including drills, sawsalls, pipe shears and nitrogen cylinders were stolen from each vehicle. The total value of the stolen equipment is estimated to be in excess of $25,000, while the damage to the vehicles is estimated at more than $12,000.
Two males were captured on video surveillance. Both were described as average height, medium build and wearing grey hoodies. One had a blue bandana over his face, grey pants and black Nike shoes. The second had a coloured design on the back of his hoodie, black pants and gloves. They were driving a dark-coloured GMC Sierra pickup.

Male arrested for impaired, obstruct
A London male faces impaired driving and obstruction charges after falsely identifying himself as his twin brother early Sunday.
Just after 2 a.m. the Guelph Police Service was notified of a possible impaired driver entering the city from Puslinch. Officers located the vehicle on Gordon Street near Maltby Road and observed it to be driving erratically.
A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, who identified himself using his twin brother’s licence, registered a fail on a roadside screening device. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system. A check of provincial databases confirmed his true identity.
A 24-year-old London male is charged with impaired operation and obstructing police. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court October 21, 2022.
Male arrested after weapons call near school
A Guelph male faces charges after someone was seen with a possible firearm near an elementary school Friday afternoon.
Approximately 2:45 p.m. police were called to a school in the city’s north end after a staff member saw a male on school property holding what appeared to be a handgun and pointing it at election signs. Officers arrived minutes later to find the school’s principal had approached the male and seized a realistic-looking toy gun.
A 43-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief to property. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
