World No. 5 Ons Jabeur admits she feels relieved now that she has been through to the US Open final. Jabeur, 27, reached her first Grand Slam final at this past Wimbledon. Leading up to the US Open, Jabeur played poorly as she went just 2-3 in five hard court matches played before the final Grand Slam of the season.
But Jabeur is now back to playing her best tennis as she ousted Caroline Garcia 6-1 6-3 to reach the US Open final. “It feels amazing,” Jabeur said after progressing into her first US Open final. “After Wimbledon there was a lot pressure on me.
I’m really relieved that I can back up my results. The hard-court season started a little bit bad but now I’m very happy that I made the finals here”.
Jabeur on how important her serve was
Jabeur was serving exceptionally throughout the match as she fired eight aces and won 83% of her first serve points.
Jabeur didn’t face a single break point versus Garcia. “It was so important, especially when she comes into the court and puts a lot of pressure on my second serve, so I had to put more serves in,” Jabeur said.
“In the second set she was playing much better. I was really glad she didn’t break at the end because it was going to be tough at 5-4”. Jabeur got off to a very strong start, breaking Garcia three times to easily win the first set.
After winning the first set, Jabeur earned the first break of the second set in the fourth game for a 3-1 lead. Jabeur then held on to her serve the rest of the match to complete a straight-set victory. In the US Open final, Jabeur plays first-seeded Iga Swiatek. Going into the US Open final, the head-to-head between Jabeur and Swiatek stands at 2-2.
