Adebayo allegedly approached Herro and struck him in the face shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday. The Heat were coming to use the same court where Herro’s AAU team was practising. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the incident.
Charania added that Adebayo was upset with comments Herro allegedly made about him on social media.
“Honestly, I’m just trying to move past all of it,” Herro told ESPN. “I’m focused on Milwaukee and building something special. They obviously just traded the greatest player in their history, so we want to come in and help continue what they’ve been doing.”
Herro was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks earlier in the off-season as part of the Giannis Antetokounmpo deal. Adebayo and Herro were teammates for seven seasons in Miami before the trade.
According to Shelburne’s report, Adebayo and Herro had a good relationship for most of their shared Heat tenure. However, they grew apart over the past season. Herro played in only 33 games due to various injuries and had difficulty acclimating to the team’s new offensive system when he was on the floor.
Adebayo made comments suggesting Herro needed to do more to fit into the new offence on several occasions.
“It’s all love in Miami,” Herro said when interviewed during Friday’s Heat-Bucks Summer League game on the Prime broadcast before the news of his altercation with Adebayo broke. “I’ve seen a couple of the guys, coaching staff, Chris Quinn, Spo (Erik Spoelstra), the front office guys; we are all good in Miami. Just an opportunity for both sides to reset, get a fresh start, and both are super happy with this.”
