FREDERICTON – The Crown corporation behind New Brunswick’s liquor and cannabis stores shut down its debit and credit card machines last week after detecting a cybersecurity threat, forcing customers to pay with cash.
Spokeswoman Florence Gouton says “some anomalies” were found on Jan. 7 and external experts were called in to investigate, but much of the system remains off-line.
Gouton says the investigation has yet to be completed, but she says NB Liquor and Cannabis NB are gradually restoring their systems as a technical team works around the clock.
As well, Gouton apologized for the inconvenience experienced by customers, suppliers and agency partners.
But she did not disclose details about what went wrong, saying the corporation will not be offering interviews as the investigation continues.
NB Liquor operates a network of stores in 29 communities across the province.
