Despite the strong mobilization, despite all of Mamadou’s efforts to expose the injustice he is facing, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) has decided Mamadou Konate will be deported on 30 September. Mamadou’s story has been recounted in the media endless times over the past several years, particularly the role he played in long-term care homes during the first wave of the pandemic.
Mamadou’s lawyer, Me Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, asked the CBSA to postpone the deportation but this request was refused. An updated pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) as well as a new application for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) have both been submitted, but Mamadou has not received an answer on either application. In the next few days, Mamadou will make an emergency application to the Federal Court, seeking a stay of deportation. If granted, this will allow him the time to receive a response on his TRP application and on his application for ministerial dispensation, submitted over a year and a half ago, which would finally allow his strong application on humanitarian grounds to be considered.
