AGA 99 Years Young: First situated in the Edmonton Public Library, then the Hotel Macdonald, the Art Gallery of Alberta has been a roving Downtown mainstay longer than most of us have been alive. Celebrating its 99th birthday Friday with its current pop show From Warhol to Banksy (and others), contemporary realist painter Jori Warren will be doing an art demo, there’s a 99 Bottles of Beer party on the third floor terrace and — very importantly — free cookies. Meanwhile, AGA’s Second Annual Pride Day is the next day, including drag shows by Artasia and Indecisive, screenings of Small Town Pride and Pride and a rooftop patio beer garden, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tix and info at youraga.ca.

Details: 11 a.m.–6 p.m at AGA (2 Sir Winston Churchill Sq.), a discounted $9.99/adults
The Velveteins: These local heroes kick off a five-date, Western Canadian mini-tour with their Friday-released, surf-inspired Declarations of the 3am Freeway — which exists as yet another beautiful piece of vinyl from the band, PS. Centred around the core of singers Spencer Murphy and Addison Hiller, the band is fast approaching that 10-year milestone, so come enjoy their smooth, soothing sounds jangling inside the immortal brick box Downtown. Psych-rock Surf Hat opens. On the other side of the partition, KMS Becker, Darlin’, Cold Like Penguins and Hangxiety are all rocking for $15 over at Temple Friday as well. Whoo!
Details: 7 p.m. at Starlite Room (10030 102 St.), $20 at starliteroom.ca
The Eternal Memory (2023): In director Maite Alberdi’s gorgeous new documentary opening Friday, Augusto and Paulina have been together for 25 years. But eight years ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and now both fear the day he no longer recognizes her. Spanish with English subtitles, 84 mins.
Details: Opens Friday, Landmark City Centre Mall (10200 102 Ave.), $13.50/adult
