The post-holiday season is typically a busy time for hospital emergency departments, but Windsor Regional Hospital is reporting higher than normal volumes.
Hospital officials say the surge is being caused by a combination of the flu and a general respiratory illness.
Due to longer wait times, patients are being encouraged to consider other options like visiting a family doctor or heading to a clinic.
Wait times can be checked on the hospital’s website.
If you’re unsure of how severe your illness is you can call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 to speak to a registered nurse — that service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Hospital officials are also reminding the public it’s not too late to get the flu shot.
