Calgary-born pop singer Tate McRae will release a new single, Housewife, on Thursday, Oct. 15, her first new music since the deluxe edition of her album So Close to What came out in November 2025.
McRae announced the date on Oct. 7 with an Instagram caption that read, “Housewife. Out 10.15,” according to Capital FM and Nylon. Neither outlet gave a release time, and the song can be pre-saved, Capital FM reported.
The cover art shows McRae in a bikini pushing a pram full of cash, both outlets said. Nylon described the announcement as unceremonious, with no preview of the track.
McRae explained the idea on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It’s just kind of about a woman who can’t be contained,” she said, according to Netflix Junkie, which reported her remarks on Oct. 8. Billboard Canada also reported the comment.
Netflix Junkie described the single as the lead track from her fourth studio album, which has no official title or release date. Holler said only that it is expected to be the lead single, and noted the song has not been confirmed as country. Holler’s reading of a country sound rested on indirect clues, including her inspiration from Dolly Parton, and McRae herself has described the song only as being about “a woman who can’t be contained.”
Netflix Junkie said the title is satirical and not a serious endorsement of the “tradwife” movement. It also reported that McRae lit up the word Housewife at the start of her August set at Lollapalooza, a hint fans missed. Capital FM linked the new music to what it called the TM4 era, a label the singer has not explained publicly in anything we reviewed.
The song follows a big stretch for the Calgary native. So Close to What came out on Feb. 21, 2025, and a Penticton Herald headline described it as her first No. 1 album on both the U.S. and Canada Billboard charts. The deluxe edition followed on Nov. 21, 2025. In March, McRae was among the stars who were not attending the Junos.
Capital FM and Holler both said McRae is scheduled to perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Los Angeles this month. Capital FM put the date at Sunday, Oct. 18, and said it could be the first live performance of Housewife. Holler said Megan Moroney is also on the bill, and called a collaboration speculation, not an announcement.
What to watch next: the song’s arrival on Oct. 15, any announcement of the album’s title and date, and whether Housewife enters the Canadian charts in the weeks after release. Canada News Media has not seen any announced Canadian tour dates for the new era.
