Home Hardware is recalling 37,667 Benchmark-branded electric snow throwers sold in Canada because the power cable can break in extreme cold, creating a risk of electric shock, Health Canada said Oct. 26.
The recall covers the Benchmark 22-inch, 15-amp electric snow thrower, model YF6022. The model number is on a label on the back of the base. The machine has a red and black base and wheels, a black handle and the word “BENCHMARK” on the side.
The units were sold at Home Hardware stores from November 2020 to May 2026, according to the recall notice. The machine was made in China. Sumec Hardware & Tools of Jiangsu, China, is listed as the supplier, and Home Hardware Stores Limited of St. Jacobs, Ont., is the Canadian retailer.
As of Oct. 5, the company had received 19 reports in Canada of broken power cords. No injuries have been reported.
Health Canada said consumers should stop using the snow thrower immediately and contact Home Hardware for instructions on destroying it in exchange for a refund. Owners can call 1-877-940-5081, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, email [email protected] or visit homehardware.ca/en/landing/product-recalls.
Recalled products cannot be sold, redistributed or given away in Canada. Anyone who has had a health or safety incident with the product can report it through Health Canada’s Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
The notice is posted on the Government of Canada Recalls and Safety Alerts site as recall RA-82852.
