Zero Motorcycles is recalling its 2026 ZERO XE and ZERO XB electric motorcycles in Canada because a software problem can cause a sudden, unintended increase in power and speed while cruise control is engaged, Transport Canada said.
The department posted the recall, number 2026493, on Oct. 12 and updated it on Oct. 19. It covers 2026.0 model-year XE and XB motorcycles. The notice does not list vehicle identification numbers, the number of motorcycles affected or the provinces where they were sold.
“Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause a sudden, unintended increase in engine power and vehicle speed while cruise control is engaged,” the recall notice said. Transport Canada said a loss of stability or control could increase the risk of a crash. The notice does not report any injuries.
Owners are being told not to use cruise control until the repair is done. Transport Canada also advises riders to keep their fingers covering the brake levers while riding.
Zero will email owners and ask them to take the motorcycle to a dealership for a cruise control software update. Owners who want to check whether their motorcycle is included can search recall number 2026493 on the Government of Canada Recalls and Safety Alerts site or contact a Zero dealer.
