Nintendo’s remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches on the Switch 2 on Nov. 5, three days from now, and searches for the game have climbed in Canada as the release date nears.
Nintendo confirmed the date on Sept. 9, when series producer Eiji Aonuma showed the first gameplay. The company said the 1998 Nintendo 64 adventure has been “remade with completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music” and reworked camera and movement controls.
The release is part of the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. Nintendo said a Switch 2 40th Anniversary Edition console, along with anniversary editions of the Switch 2 Pro Controller and a carrying case with screen protector, all featuring a Triforce design, went on sale Oct. 29, a week before the game.
Nintendo Life reported that the company’s midnight launch events at its New York and San Francisco stores are already sold out. Those events require a pass and limit buyers to one copy each, according to the report. Nintendo has not announced a comparable event in Canada, and the company’s own announcement lists no Canadian-specific launch details.
More Zelda releases are planned. Nintendo said new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures will launch in 2027 and unlock special in-game masks that evoke a retro graphical style. A Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert series will tour the world next year, and the company said players who use its Nintendo Today! app can collect a free Zelda digital card each day.
A live-action film titled The Legend of Zelda is set to open in theatres worldwide on April 30, 2027. Nintendo is making it with Arad Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The original Ocarina of Time, first released in Japan in 1998, is widely regarded as one of the most influential games of its era. Nintendo has not said whether the remake changes the story or dungeon layouts beyond the upgrades it described, so players should expect that detail to become clear once reviews are published ahead of or around launch.
The Switch 2 and its games remain a popular purchase for Canadian shoppers heading into the holidays. For ideas, see our gift ideas for a gamer in Canada. Prices and stock for the remake and the anniversary console vary by retailer, so check the listings of Canadian stores and Nintendo’s own site before ordering.
