
Ontario has reported the most new COVID-19 deaths in the province since early June with 45 today, 29 of which are in long-term care homes.
The province is also reporting 1,848 new cases of COVID-19, a drop from a record 1,983 cases the day before.
The total number of deaths is now at 3,916 with 2,460 coming from long-term care homes.
Most of the new cases are in Toronto (469), followed by Peel Region (386), York Region (205) and Windsor-Essex (106).
There were over 63,000 tests completed yesterday. The testing backlog remains high at just over 69,000 tests waiting to be completed.
In total, 808 people are hospitalized in Ontario due to COVID-19, including 235 in intensive care. The province also says 124 people are on ventilators in hospital.
Another 1,753 people have recovered from COVID-19. Of the 136,631 cases reported in Ontario, 116,432 or 85.2 per cent are considered resolved.
In Ontario schools, there were 151 new COVID-19 cases reported, the majority of which (125) coming from students.
There have been 1,694 cases reported in schools in the last 14 days.
This comes as the province is expected to provide an update on its plans to rollout the COVID-19 vaccine. Ontario is expected to receive 6,000 doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine and will begin administering it on Tuesday to health care workers in Toronto and Ottawa.
