A next-gen upgrade may be in the works for Naughty Dog’s latest game, making The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 a reality sooner than we thought.
A store listing for The Last of Us Part 2 has appeared over at Best Buy that suggests a next-gen update for the game could be in the works at Naughty Dog.
The Best Buy store listing for the PlayStation 4 physical copy of one of 2020’s biggest games includes a tag that reads “includes next-gen upgrade”.
The development studio itself hasn’t formally announced any specific upgrades for The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 – though the game does benefit from all the usual system-side upgrades backwards compatible games enjoy if you boot it up on the new hardware (including faster loading times and so on).
The Last of Us Part 2 also supports haptic feedback via the DualSense controller on PS5, but that’s about the extent of its next-gen support at the time of writing.
It may be that Best Buy has made the listing in error, and we’re not going to see more upgrades released for the game, but given that other PlayStation exclusives have received patches to make them perform better on the new hardware, that seems unlikely.
There’s also no mention of an upgrade on The Last of Us Part 2’s PS5 store listing page, though, so take Best Buy’s tag with a pinch of salt. The official Sony description for the game on PS5 actually notes that “while this game is playable on the PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent”.
Last week, HBO greenlit a series based on The Last of Us that’s due to go into production soon. It will be helmed by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and executive produced and written by Neil Druckmann.
Apple's HomePod mini finally gets its ultra-wideband handoff feature – MobileSyrup
Apple’s HomePod mini has finally received the long-awaited ultra-wideband (UWB) handoff feature with the launch of iOS 14.4.
The feature essentially allows an iPhone 12 or iPhone 11 to transfer calls and music between the two devices seamlessly.
Although the tech giant’s previous speakers have supported the ability to hand off music, the new HomePod mini features a U1 ultra-wideband chip that makes it easier to transfer content. It also adds additional features such as new visual and haptic feedback.
Further, the device will also give users personalized listening suggestions and playback controls on their iPhone when they bring it near the speaker.
Apple showcased this feature when it first announced the HomePod Mini and said the functionality would be available sometime in late 2020. Although the tech giant slightly missed its deadline, it’s nice that the feature is here.
To use the new functionality, you need to ensure that your HomePod mini has been updated to the latest software and that your iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 is running iOS 14.4. It’s worth noting the feature isn’t available on the original HomePod.
If you want to learn more about the device you can check out MobileSyrup’s review here.

Here are the free games hitting PlayStation Plus in February 2021 – MobileSyrup
Every month, Sony offers a few PlayStation 4 games at no additional cost to those subscribed to its PlayStation Plus service.
Now, the company has revealed what free titles are hitting the service in February 2021.
Notably, there’s a brand-new PS5 game here, as well as two acclaimed PS4 games.
The PS5 game in question is Destruction AllStars, a vehicular combat game that’s launching, as Sony previously promised, straight onto PS Plus.
Additionally, Sony is adding Control: Ultimate Edition — Remedy Entertainment’s latest trippy, David Lynch-inspired action game — to PS Plus on both PS4 and PS5. Finally, painting-focused PS4 action-adventure game Concrete Genie is joining the PS Plus catalogue in February and will be playable on PS5 as well via backward compatibility.
All three games can be downloaded for free via PlayStation Plus starting February 2nd. Destruction AllStars will remain as a free download until April 5th, while Control: Ultimate Edition and Concrete Genie will be available until March 1st.
A PlayStation Plus subscription costs $69.99/year in Canada.

Here Are Your Free PS Plus Games For February 2021 – Forbes
As expected, Sony just announced the free PS Plus games for PS4 and PS5 before the end of the month today, which includes three titles, one we knew already, and the other two that are a bit of a surprise.
Here are your February 2021 free PS Plus games, which will be available from February 2 to March 3, except for Destruction AllStars, which is available until April 5 instead.
Destruction AllStars – This is the one we knew already since Sony announced that Destruction AllStars would be delayed from its initial fall launch window and instead be released first on PS Plus. It has the unique debut ability to show up for two months instead of one as Sony tries to make the car combat game into a new Rocket League, and you can give it a shot in just a few days.
Control Ultimate Edition – I did not see many people predicting this, but it’s a good one. Control is a truly fantastic game so to get it offered for free here, along with all its DLC, is excellent to see. There was some manner of controversy about cross-generation versions of the game a while ago, but now that’s been cleared up, and PlayStation players can cut through all that and get the best, most complete version for free this upcoming month.
Concrete Genie – I heard a few people predicting that this would be the smaller, indie game on the list besides Destruction AllStars and it looks like those predictions panned out to the letter. It’s a fun little game that has probably been missed by quite a few people so hopefully it will get the attention it deserves with a run on PS Plus here.
Given that I’ve already played Control, I am probably going to check out Destruction AllStars to see A) how much staying power it potentially has, boosted by two free months on PS Plus, B) whether it can help me scratch the Twisted Metal itch that’s been missing from my life for a long while, although minus all the deeply disturbing stuff from that game.
These games will launch in just under a week on February 2, so make sure you uh, don’t buy Control or anything by accident before then. I’ll probably post a reminder when they go live just so you don’t forget, as it’s a good selection this month. Stay tuned for more.
