WINNIPEG – Judd Caulfield scored his first NHL goal and added an assist as the Anaheim Ducks beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 on Friday night, ending Winnipeg’s three-game winning streak and handing the Jets their first regulation loss of the season.
Tim Washe, Sam Colangelo, Mikael Granlund and Nikita Nesterenko also scored for Anaheim, which improved to 3-1-0. Jeff Malott and Beckett Sennecke each had two assists, and Granlund and Washe each finished with a goal and an assist.
Lukas Dostal stopped 15 shots to earn the win. Clay Stevenson made 12 saves for Winnipeg, which fell to 3-1-1.
Caulfield opened the scoring at 14:41 of the first period, pouncing on a rebound of a Malott shot. Washe made it 2-0 at 5:20 of the second, finishing a two-on-one rush off a Caulfield pass.
Colangelo scored 4:25 into the third period on a backhand feed from Sennecke. Kyle Connor got Winnipeg on the board at 10:36 with a breakaway goal off a cross-ice pass from Mark Scheifele, but Granlund restored the three-goal lead at 14:06 with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line. Nesterenko added an empty-net goal with 41 seconds left.
Connor’s goal was his sixth of the season and the 329th of his career, moving him into sole possession of third place on the all-time goal list for the Jets and Atlanta Thrashers franchise.
“That’s pretty awesome having a ton of family tonight,” Caulfield said after the game.
Anaheim plays the back end of a back-to-back on Saturday in Calgary, the second game of a two-game Canadian road trip, before returning home to host the Flames on Tuesday.
