Hastings Prince Edward Public Health officials report COVID-19 cases have been steadily increasing over the last two weeks as cooler temperatures prevail and the region moves closer toward fall.

The health unit reported Wednesday 87 new high-risk cases of COVID-19, up from 61 new cases last week.

According to the health unit’s dashboard, active high-risk cases more than doubled to 134 cases, up from 63 the week before.
Health officials reported no new deaths attributed to COVID-19 illness in the past week.
There were 124 deaths attributed recorded in the region overall, according to the health unit’s latest numbers.
The average hospitalization rate in regional hospitals in the last week was 9.1 persons statistically speaking with an average 0.3 in the Intensive Care Unit.
There were five outbreaks in a high-risk setting.
Statistics show 81 per cent of local residents have had their primary series vaccination, the health unit said, while a further six per cent have been jabbed in the last six months.
In Canada, latest COVID-19 numbers as of Aug. 29 show a total of 4.7 million cases have been recorded since the pandemic began, up by 2,845 cases across the country.
Nationally, there were 53,345 deaths recorded since the pandemic began to date linked to COVID-19 with 30 new deaths recorded.
There were 21,838 weekly tests reported across Canada with 11.6 per cent positivity.
