“They’re doing a good job trying to clear out the people they can. But when you have 200 people in there, and people still coming and going, you’re bound to have a COVID case at some time. It’s tough to isolate the men who are there.”
A source told The Free Press that three correctional officers and their three partners were tested Thursday for COVID-19, and are in 14-day quarantine, but results weren’t known yet.
The province gave early release to hundreds of inmates across Ontario as the pandemic deepened in March.
The province is also housing new inmates in separate areas away for the general population for 14 days, checking the temperature of staff and visitors, and providing personal protection equipment for staff, Denette said in an email to The Free Press
Inmates with COVID-19 are medically isolated, she said.
