Hurricanes make NHL history with sweep of Flyers in Round 2

Carolina completed a Round 2 sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 4 on Saturday to book their spot in the Eastern Conference Final.

Saturday’s win moves the Hurricanes to a perfect 8-0 to start the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as they also swept the Ottawa Senators in Round 1.

Carolina is the first team to start 8-0 in the post-season since 1985, and the first team in NHL history to start 8-0 since the current playoff format of four rounds of best-of-seven began in 1987.

The Hurricanes will now take a lengthy break as they await the winner of the Montreal Canadiens-Buffalo Sabres series, which is tied 1-1.

Carolina also made the Eastern Conference Final last season before falling to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
