Monique Sauvé, who has been a member of the National Assembly since 2015, announced on Saturday she will not seek another mandate representing the Laval riding of Fabre.
“I thank former premier Philippe Couillard and my leader Dominique Anglade for their confidence and support,” Sauvé said in a statement. “I hold in my heart the citizens of my riding and our partners. I’m extremely grateful to my team, the riding association, volunteers and activists of the Quebec Liberal Party, for their support all these years.”
Sauvé did not explain why she has decided to retire.
Anglade paid tribute to Sauvé’s involvement and determination in her own statement.
“During these last few years, marked by the pandemic, Monique spoke for those who, too often, feel alone in their lives, and believe me, Monique always made it her duty to represent them.”
Over the past few months, several former Liberal cabinet ministers have announced they’re quitting politics, including Gaétan Barrette, Christine St-Pierre et Lise Thériault.
