League of Legends’ new champion Samira and ability kit revealed – Polygon

Published

 on

In a surprise reveal, Riot has debuted a brand-new League of Legends champion named Samira. While most League champions get some kind of fanfare just before their release, Samira only had some vague rose imagery appear before showing up out of the blue on League’s Public Beta Environment, where Riot tests the game’s newest champions and changes.

Samira’s kit makes her a kind of hybrid character who can deal damage with ranged attacks or up close with separate melee attacks. Her Q ability even has separate effects for a ranged version and a melee version.

Her most unique ability seems to be her Blade Whirl, which slashes enemies around her and destroys enemy missiles in the area. The ability, in theory, would destroy skill shots from most champions, similar to Fiora’s Riposte. While it’s difficult to say exactly where Samira will feel most at home, her kit certainly seems similar to a few other top laners, so it’s possible that will be her main role once she’s released.

Here’s everything in Samira’s kit, according to the wonderful data-mining work by Surrender at 20. Because this came out of nowhere, it’s possible that parts of Samira’s kit are a work in progress and may change in the future, or that she eventually gets pulled from the PBE.

Passive — Daredevil Impulse

Samira builds a combo by hitting attacks or abilities unique form the previous hit. Each one increass her Style, from “E” to “S” grading (for a total of six). Samira gains movement speed for each Style grade.

Samira’s attacks in melee range deal additional magic damage and increase based on the target’s missing health.

Samira’s attacks against enemies affected by immobilizing effects knock the target up for and deal damage over six several attacks. Samira dashes into range against targets slightly outside her attack range.

Q — Flair

Samira fires a shot, dealing physical damage to the first enemy hit.

If this ability is cast towards an enemy in melee range, Samira will instead slash with her sword, dealing phsyical damage.

Either hit can critically strike for 25% bonus damage.

If cast during Wild Rush, Samira will strike all enemies in her path upon completion.

W — Blade Whirl

Samira slashes around her for one second, damaging enemies twice for physical damage each and destroying any enemy missiles that enter the area.

E— Wild Rush

Samira dashes through an enemy or ally, slashing enemies she passes through and gaining Attack Speed. Killing an enemy champions refreshes this ability’s cooldown.

R — Inferno Trigger

Samira can only use this ability if her current Style rating is S.

Samira unleashes a torrent of shots from her weapons, wildly shooting all enemies surrounding her 10 times over two seconds, each shot dealing physical damage and applying lifesteal. Each shot can also critically strike.

Oshawa wedding declared an outbreak event after eight people test positive for COVID-19 – CP24 Toronto's Breaking News

Published

 on

Attendees of a wedding held in Oshawa earlier this month are being urged to contact public health officials after eight people tested positive for COVID-19.

In a news release issued Wednesday, Durham Region said that those who attended the Sept. 19 event at the Caribbean Cultural Centre, located near Colonel Sam Drive and Farewell Street, may have been exposed to the disease.

About 50 guests were at the wedding, officials said, as well as eight to 10 staff and an unspecified number of volunteers.

“The Health Department has been notified of eight cases of COVID-19 associated with this event and is having difficulty obtaining a full list of attendees and their contact information,” the release reads.

“As a result of the eight positive cases of COVID-19, an outbreak has been declared at this wedding that took place at the Caribbean Cultural Centre.”

Officials say they are also in contact with two local workplaces that have been impacted by the outbreak.

While gathering limits in Ontario have been slashed to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors, there is currently an exception for staffed businesses.

Larger centres and venues can still hold weddings with a maximum of 50 people indoors and 100 outdoors.

Durham Region is urging anyone who attended the wedding in Oshawa to call the Health Department at 905-668-4113, ext. 2680.

Canada's COVID Alert App Not Being Utilized to Full Potential – VOCM

Published

 on

While the userbase of Canada’s COVID Alert app continues to grow, the number of people reporting positive test results remains fairly low.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says nearly three million people (2.94-million) have already downloaded the app, which is currently available in four provinces.

However, only 514 notifications for positive tests have been issued—all of which were in Ontario.

Officials have been urging people to adopt the app as parts of the country are experiencing a second wave of the coronavirus. In the last 14 days, Ontario has reported over 4,600 new cases.

A public health spokesperson says they are working with other provinces to roll out the COVID Alert app countrywide.

Google announces new Chromecast with Google TV for $50 – GSMArena.com news – GSMArena.com

Published

 on

Alongside the two Pixel phones today Google announced the new ‘Chromecast with Google TV’, a streaming dongle similar to previous Chromecast devices but now with its own interface and remote.

The Chromecast with Google TV hardware has a design similar to the previous Chromecast but just a bit more elongated. The HDMI cable plugs directly into your TV or AV receiver and can be powered through the supplied USB adapter using the new USB-C connector.

The internals have been updated to 2020 standards and the device is now capable of outputting 4K at 60Hz along with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR10 support. On the audio side, it can process Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos pass-through. The device also features dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and an unspecified version of Bluetooth.

The device will be available in three colors: Snow, Sunrise, and Sky.

The new Chromecast with Google TV also includes a remote. This slick new design has the navigation pad at the top, volume buttons on the side and also shortcut buttons for Google Assistant, YouTube, and Netflix. The remote has built-in accelerometer that could potentially be used in games. The remote connects to the Chromecast over Bluetooth and also has IR for TV, soundbars, and receivers.

On the software side, the new Chromecast with Google TV runs on, well, the new Google TV. Google TV is the new software layer that runs on top of the existing Android TV. Think of it as launcher that integrates with the existing Android TV OS and applications.

The new Google TV UI looks a lot like the Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV UI, with category tabs at the top and a tile-based UI for recently watched content and navigating the installed apps. It will categorize content from apps based on genre and suggest them based on your watch history. There’s also a new Watchlist feature, which integrates with your Google account, and lets you add content to your watch list from any app or any device.

Google TV is debuting with the new Chromecast but will be available on television models from Sony and other Android TV OS partners in 2021. Google will also be releasing the Google TV app on Android smartphones and tablets. The app will be available as an update to the existing Google Play Movies.

So that’s the Chromecast with Google TV. It’s available in the US starting today at $50. It can also be pre-ordered today in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the U.K. and will be available for purchase on October 15.
