RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — The area around the Bridgeport bus loop in Richmond has reopened after a possible grenade was found onboard a bus Sunday morning.
The situation lead to the area being evacuated and placed on lockdown.
Transit Police Constable Mike Yake says the explosive detection unit has been deemed safe.
“At this point, they are still unsure what it is so they’re taking control of it and they will assess it at a later date in a more controlled environment,” he says.
A bus driver discovered the possible grenade around 11:00 a.m. He had seen it inside a small grocery cart next to a man.
One man was arrested but released at the scene and Yake says a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose dangerous is being considered.
