A Grade 11 South Surrey student is taking her belief that social media has promoted an unrealistic vision of beauty to the national stage next month, at the Miss Teenage Canada pageant in Toronto.
According to emailed information, Sage Reber was among 10 B.C. finalists to qualify for the pageant, which was created by Miss World Canada 1996, Michelle Weswaldi.
The regional event was held April 23 and 24 in Vancouver, while the national pageant is set for July 29, and will open the door for its winner to compete for the crown of Miss Teen Universe.
A South Surrey teen won the Miss Teenage World crown in 2021.
Reber is a Grandview Heights Secondary student whose passions include cheerleading, modelling and gymnastics.
Her accolades include winning last year’s GlamZ Gala model contest, which led to a runway appearance in New York as well as photo shoots in Time Square and Central Park; as well as several gymnastics trophies, and participation three years ago in the World Gymnaestrada in Austria.
Recently, Reber presented $6,450 to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation – proceeds from an auction of art created by South Surrey/White Rock youth and auctioned off through the NPC Art Foundation.
