While Google was confident enough to tease the Pixel Tablet at the end of 2023 ahead of an expected launch at the upcoming I/O Developer conference, the presumptively-named Pixel Fold has not been seen… until now.
This weekend, reliable leaker Kuba Wojciechowski posted a video with an unbranded foldable phone. Speaking to The Verge, Wojciechowski said very little on the record beyond the identity of the device… it’s the aforementioned Pixel Fold.
The design does match up with what we already know about the Google’s first foldable phone, but seeing the physical model highlights some key features. These include the outer display, which at a reported 17.4:9 ratio screen is wider than the screens seen in foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Honor Magic Vs families.
What Wojciechowski didn’t show was the camera housing of the Fold. Google has used a raised bar that stretched across the entire width of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 families. The new Pixel Fold is expected to use a more rounded ‘pill-shaped’ camera bar. Beyond a tiny sliver of the camera island sneaking into the shot, the video focused on showing the hinged inner screen.
The device is expected to debut in full at Google’s I/O even on May 10th, although we may see some official ‘preview/tease/images before the end of April.
