As vaccination clinics continue to grow and expand locally, public health doctors in the region say the area is not getting its fair share when is comes to vaccines.
During Friday’s COVID- 19 briefing, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang said there has not been an equitable distribution of the vaccine.
“There has not been equitable distribution across the province, there are for example in some areas that have AstraZeneca now,” said Wang.
There are over 2.3 million doses being distributed and Waterloo Region makes up almost four per cent of the the total population in Ontario.
There should be just under 90,000 doses in the area, but the region right now is short around 25,000.
Premier Doug Ford says the province is just not getting enough supply from the federal government.
“I have been very complimentary and collaborative with the federal government, but enough is enough, we need more vaccine, it’s as simple as that,” said Ford.
“This is the root cause, we do not have enough vaccines from the federal government and it’s a joke, fifty-fifth in the world, I’m done I’m sorry this is as frustrating as anything.”
Despite the shortage in vaccines the region says it’s infrastructure is ready and prepared to handle more vaccines when they do become available.
