DNA links male to stolen truck
A Guelph male faces charges after he was linked by DNA to a recovered stolen vehicle.
On February 19, 2022, Guelph Police Service officers on patrol recovered a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup which had been stolen several days earlier from an address outside the city.
Evidence found inside the pickup was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences, where DNA was determined to be from someone on the national DNA data bank.
On Friday a 36-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with being an occupant in a stolen motor vehicle. He will appear in a Guelph court July 26, 2022.
Male charged after fleeing collision
A Guelph male faces several charges after fleeing a collision Sunday afternoon.
Police were called approximately 3:45 p.m. to a collision on Speedvale Avenue East near Metcalfe Street. Investigation revealed a vehicle was leaving a private residence when it was struck by another vehicle, which fled the scene but left behind a licence plate.
A short time later the suspect drove past the collision scene in a different vehicle and was stopped by police. The male initially denied being involved in the collision and said the licence plate must have been stolen from his garage.
A 36-year-old Guelph male is charged with failing to stop after a collision, obstructing police and operating a vehicle without insurance. He will appear in a Guelph court August 30, 2022.
Two arrested for impaired driving
Two Guelph residents were arrested for impaired driving on the weekend, including a female who used a second set of keys to drive home after staff of a local establishment took away the first set.
Approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday, police were notified of an impaired driver leaving a licensed establishment in the area of Silvercreek Parkway North and Speedvale Avenue West. Staff had removed a female’s keys and offered to call a taxi when the female produced a second set of keys and drove off.
The vehicle was located near the owner’s residence and a traffic stop was conducted. After registering a fail on a roadside device, the driver was returned to the police station where further testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 67-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired operation. Her licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in a Guelph court August 2, 2022.
On Saturday evening, approximately 7:40 p.m., Guelph Police Service officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Victoria Road North near Woodlawn Road East. A traffic stop was conducted and officers could detect a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. An open can of beer and marijuana were also seen inside the car.
The driver failed a roadside test and was taken to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 23-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation, driving while suspended and several other provincial offences. His licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court July 29, 2022.
$2,400 in perfume stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after more than $2,400 in perfume was stolen from a local business.
Last Friday, the manager of a business located near Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North contacted police about a theft which had occurred a day earlier. On Thursday evening, a male and female entered the store. While the female distracted staff, the male collected 12 bottles of Chanel perfume. Minutes later both suspects left the store without paying for the product, which had a total value of $2,447.
