A federal court hearing for Mamadou Konate, an Ivorian facing deportation, will take place Thursday, September 29 at 2:30 p.m. Mamadou was told Tuesday afternoon by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), without further explanation, that his deportation would not take place on September 30 as announced. The relief was short-lived. An hour later, he was informed that the date was only postponed because of a change of travel itinerary and that the deportation would take place in the coming days. Yesterday, Mamadou was informed that the deportation has now been set for 5 October.
We denounce this psychological torture. How can the CBSA and the Canadian government use such inhumane and cruel practices, playing with people’s lives? Are they aware of the impact this kind of move can have, so close to the announced date? Will anyone in the government wake up and take responsibility for Mamadou, who has suffered injustice after injustice since his arrival here?
Status for Mamadou! Status for all!
