How can government and business justify limiting raises when they have let prices soar out of reach for the majority of Canadians?
Housing, vehicles, gas, produce — all out of reach for so many. The gap between the two is so large that for many Canadians, a 50 per cent raise would still not let them in the housing market. That is no exaggeration.
We are in this situation because those elected to serve us have turned a blind eye to collusion replacing competition in much of our economy. They have knowingly created an economy that favours business profit at the expense of hard-working Canadians.
I was fortunate to live in an economy where prices and wages were balanced, where anyone who wanted to work could find employment that would afford them a place to live and raise their families.
Today’s economy does not work for the majority of Canadians and must change. Living-wage jobs are a right in our country, not a gift from the rich and powerful.
