VANCOUVER: Nicolas Deslauriers, Nikolaj Ehlers and Logan Stankoven each scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vancouver Canucks 6-3 on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena, extending Vancouver’s losing streak to eight games.
Deslauriers scored the winner at 4:07 of the third period, one-timing a feed from Bradly Nadeau to put Carolina ahead 4-3. Ehlers made it 5-3 at 10:21 when he broke in alone and beat Leevi Merilainen, and Stankoven iced it with an empty-net goal late in the third.
Stankoven opened the scoring at 4:44 of the first period. Linus Karlsson tied it for Vancouver, Ehlers put the Hurricanes back in front, and Jonathan Lekkerimaki tied the game 2-2 on the power play with just seconds left in the period for his first career power-play goal.
Deslauriers made it 3-2 at 2:26 of the second period, and Max Sasson tied it 3-3 at 13:07. Merilainen stopped Carolina’s Sebastian Aho on a penalty shot in the second period.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves on 17 shots for the Hurricanes, who improved to 8-2-1. The reigning Stanley Cup champions had lost 3-2 in Calgary on Sunday, a game the Flames won late, and swept the two-game season series with the Canucks after a 7-2 win in Raleigh on Oct. 8.
Vancouver fell to 2-8-1, its eighth straight game without a win, a slide that includes a 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canucks came in with the league’s worst penalty kill but killed all five Carolina power plays.
“It’s a really good lesson for our group in that when your game lacks details in the third, or when you open up the door against teams that we’ve been playing, they make you pay,” Canucks head coach Manny Malhotra said after the game.
Vancouver hosts the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. Carolina visits the Edmonton Oilers the same night, a team that beat the Minnesota Wild in overtime on Tuesday.
