The City of Victoria began its fall leaf collection on Oct. 19 and will run it until January, with crews visiting every street twice.
Each neighbourhood zone takes three to four weeks, the city said. Dates may shift with the weather, and crews prioritize flood-prone areas.
James Bay, Fairfield, Rockland and Gonzales had their first collection start Oct. 19, and the second is Dec. 7. Jubilee, Fernwood, Oaklands and Hillside Quadra get their first collection starting Nov. 9 and their second on Dec. 21. North Park, Burnside, Victoria West and Downtown are first on Nov. 30 and second on Jan. 4.
Residents should pile leaves on the grassy boulevard before their area’s first collection date. Homes without a boulevard should place piles on their property near the road edge. Piles and bags must be visible and reachable from the street, and kept off or away from trees, power poles, signs and fire hydrants. Bags are optional, and anyone using them should choose clear bags only.
The city also offers leaf drop-off locations and bagged leaf pick-up, though its notice does not list locations or booking details. Full guidelines are at victoria.ca/leafcollection. Questions can go to City Hall at 250-385-5711, open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The collection starts days after voters re-elected Mayor Alto, as we reported. Greater Victoria also set an advance-voting mark, with 100,242 advance ballots cast.
