With cold weather settling in and holiday shopping getting under way, many Canadians are putting up outdoor lights early, before the snow and ice make the ladder work miserable. Here are five strings on Amazon.ca, from a budget bistro set to a smart-home splurge, with the listing details that matter most. Prices were accurate on Oct. 24, 2026, and may change.

S14 LED Outdoor String Lights, 27 ft

A low-cost pick for a deck, fence or porch rail, and the cheapest set in this guide. The listing shows 4.7 out of 5 stars from 5,899 customer ratings, one of the larger counts here.

• Price: $26.99
• Length: 27 ft per strand, connectable (the listing says up to 918 ft in total)
• Shatterproof S14 Edison-style bulbs
• IP65 weatherproof, per the listing

The seller describes the plastic bulbs as shatterproof, which helps on cold-weather installs. Check the listing for how many strands can safely connect to one outlet before you plan a long run.

Heyworld 100 LED Slow Twinkle Christmas Lights

For a roofline, railing or outdoor tree wrap where you want a soft, warm flicker instead of a steady glare. It is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 101 customer ratings.

• Price: $49.34 (list price $56.44)
• Length: 27 ft with 100 warm white LEDs
• Connects up to 25 sets, per the listing
• UL588 certified and IP44 waterproof, with the plug kept dry

The listing says each light flickers independently for a gentle effect. IP44 is a lower water-resistance rating than IP65, so keep the plug and connections off the ground and out of the snow.

Brightech Ambience Pro Outdoor String Lights, 48 ft

For a backyard, gazebo or bistro-style patio that you will keep using after the holidays. It has the most customer ratings of the five, 7,214, with an average of 4.7 out of 5, so its score carries more weight than sets with a few dozen reviews.

• Price: $96.41
• Length: 48 ft with dimmable Edison-style LED bulbs
• Described by the seller as commercial grade and weatherproof

It costs more than three times as much as the S14 set, so it suits shoppers who want a heavier-duty string to leave up year-round.

Outdoor Christmas Lights, 100 LED C9 with timer

For a classic big-bulb look along the eaves, with a timer so the lights switch on at dusk without anyone heading outside in the cold.

• Price: $59.99, with a coupon showing $49.19 at the time of writing
• 100 LED C9 bulbs in warm white
• Timer and 8 lighting modes, per the listing
• Rating: 4.4 out of 5 from about 1,400 customer ratings

The 4.4 average is the lowest of the five, so read the most recent customer reviews on the listing before you buy.

Philips Hue Festavia Globe Outdoor String Lights, 45 ft

For people already on a smart-home system who want colour changes, music sync and voice control. It is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 96 customer ratings.

• Price: $299.99
• Length: 45 ft with 16 globe bulbs
• Works with the Hue app, Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Home, per the listing
• White and full-colour light, with scenes and music sync

It is by far the priciest set here, and its review count is much smaller than the budget strings, so it is best for committed smart-home users.
