It’s been rather quiet on the Armored Core VI front since its announcement in December of last year. However, all that has now changed with a new gameplay trailer and an August release date.

There have been a lot of rumors that the game would be released at the end of this year, but I am glad that is now not the case. The holiday season is utter carnage when it comes to game releases, and Armored Core hasn’t had a proper game in 10 years.

So releasing the game in August makes a lot more sense, as it will mean the game will have a chance to actually reach newer players this time around.

That’s something a nice little interview with Yasunori Ogawa over at IGN covers in a decent bit of detail. Namely that attention has finally been given to the game’s controls, but it does sound like the customization will still be very involved.

Not that I mind that, but it may be a bit much for most new players, which is something I covered a while back.

Visually the game is looking nice in the new trailer (shown below) and it’s clear that Armored Core VI does indeed have a decent budget this time around.

In terms of gameplay, it looks to be an interesting mix. With what appears to be a functional base from the PlayStation 2 games, with additional elements from the later Armored Core 4 and Armored Core V instalments, such as quick boost and auto-hovering.

However, the mention of “new” close combat in the game from the IGN interview is a bit…weird. Mainly because laser blades have been a staple in the Armored Core series since the 1997 original.

Story-wise it is an all-new narrative, which is pretty typical for numbered entries in the saga. So you will be able to drop in and not have to worry about catching up on previous instalments.

Some of the limited edition versions of the game look nice too, with one coming with a figurine (shown above). Although, whether this will be articulated is not entirely clear at this point.

Anyway, Armored Core VI is almost finally here and I cannot wait to check out once it is finally released. Having to wait a decade to get a new game in the series has been tough, but I am glad it is finally here.

Armored Core VI will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on August 25.
