“I think what he’s tried to do is focus on the hotspot areas where there’s more person-to-person contact,” Mayor Ed Holder said after the news conference.
“Regardless of that, what I’ve been preaching over the last three months of these press conferences is for people to do the appropriate health practices: to self-distance, to wash hands, and to wear masks. I wear a mask and I encourage people . . . (to) wear a mask and not wait until the order has been formally made.”
Mackie said public health orders are a “very powerful tool, and it’s absolutely necessary to use that tool carefully,” in response to why he hasn’t ordered masks be worn in most, or all, indoor settings, as other communities such as Windsor, Kingston, Guelph and Toronto have done.
