Some people lining up for the flu shot might get a rare view of Sasktel Centre.
This year the Saskatchewan Health Authority is using about 30 spectator boxes at the 13,000-seat arena as a mass flu immunization clinic. Saskatoon’s executive director of primary health care, Suzanne Mahaffery, said it’s just one way the SHA is getting creative with how it rolls out the annual jab.
“Incidentally, each of those (boxes) have a nice little bar fridge … so we can also preserve our cold chain that way as well,” Mahaffery said.
This year’s flu shot campaign will be unique because the COVID-19 pandemic will force health care workers to contend with record demand for the annual jab while still following safety protocols.
SHA physician executive Dr. Kevin Wasko said that also means this year’s campaign will be a“test drive” for how a COVID-19 vaccine is rolled out.
This year people can get their shots at more than 550 locations in Saskatchewan, including acute care centres, walk-in clinics, from a home care provider, mass immunization clinics, pharmacies, or your family doctor’s office. A complete list of locations is available at 4flu.ca.
