Shanghai, China- Shanghai will ease its COVID-19 lockdown restrictions on Wednesday since they were imposed on the 28th of March, 2022.
According to a statement by the Shanghai municipal leading group for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the city’s COVID-19 situation has been effectively curbed and new rules will be put into effect starting tomorrow.
“No restrictions should be put on residents entering or leaving residential compounds except for those in middle and high-risk areas and areas put under COVID-19 restrictions. Shanghai will also essentially resume public transport services, including buses, rail transport and ferries, in the city. Taxis and online-hailing services will resume business and private cars will be allowed on roads, except for those in middle and high-risk areas and areas put under COVID-19 restrictions,” read a statement from the Shanghai municipality.
Barriers designed to keep people inside their buildings have been dismantled and citizens returned in small numbers to streets that were recently deserted as part of the most notable lockdown in China since the closure of Wuhan in 2020.
“Tomorrow, our city will usher in a new beginning. This is a day that we have for a long time hoped for, and paid a price for,” said Yin Xin, Shanghai’s municipal spokesperson.
Meanwhile, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) has announced that it has organized experts to conduct a risk assessment, issue alerts about the monkeypox virus, and taken strict measures including body temperature monitoring and medical inspection for inbound travellers.
Customs authorities have also strengthened the quarantine of inbound goods and rodents, as well as enhanced biosafety management of laboratories and made solid preparations for testing.
In addition, the GAC urged outbound and inbound travellers to voluntarily report to customs officers if they feel sick or have symptoms of fever, headache and sore muscles.
