It is Day 53 of “the pause”.
At the 8-week mark, there are some glimmers of hope that we could still see NHL hockey in this calendar year. But with the awful results of the COVID-19 pandemic very recent, raw and real…I will preface all my comments with a big, capitalized “IF”.

9. Oilers Captain Connor McDavid’s appearance in Sunday’s “Stronger Together” charity TV/Radio broadcast was one of the highest rated moments (575,000, AMA). The Michael Bubleopening was the 2nd biggest spike, the “Lean On Me” finale at #1. Over 12 million viewed/listened, many more on-line. Great cause.
8. Former Oilers enforcer and Edmonton fan favorite Georges Laraque has been hospitalized with COVID-19. Laraque told NHL.com that it “takes all of my energy to just get up”. Hundreds of well wishes have flowed in, including personal notes from Wayne Gretzky, Kevin Lowe and Glen Sather. Get well, Georges.
