The ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China, is seen in an illustration released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. January 29, 2020.
Alberta’s chief medical officer of health will provide details on three new cases of coronavirus, bringing the provincial total to seven.
The three new cases come after Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced two presumptive cases on Sunday.
Hinshaw said a man in his 60s from the Edmonton area is the third presumptive case. He returned on Feb. 21 from a trip on a Grand Princess cruise ship in California.
The fourth presumptive case is a woman in her 30s from the Calgary area. She was in close contact with someone who recently travelled in Europe, including Ukraine, Turkey and the Netherlands. That traveller’s test results are pending.
Anyone who has been in close contact with the patients is asked to isolate themselves and those with symptoms are being tested.
Best practices to prevent the infection from spreading include washing your hands, avoiding touching your face, coughing and sneezing into your elbow or sleeve, throwing ou tissues and staying home.
An update on the three new cases is expected Monday afternoon.
