
TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index rebounded in late early morning trading with shares of Shopify Inc. surging to a record high after the e-commerce company reported strong quarterly results.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 91.20 points at 16,212.52. Shopify was below the day’s high but still up 12 per cent at about $1,467.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 78.19 points at 26,457.47. The S&P 500 index was up 25.34 points at 3,243.78, while the Nasdaq composite was up 115.39 points at 10,517.29.
The Canadian dollar traded for 74.91 US compared with 74.78 on Tuesday.
The September crude contract was up 33 cents at US$41.37 per barrel and the September natural gas contract was up one cent at US$1.87 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was up US$1.30 at US$1,945.90 an ounce and the September copper contract was down 0.45 of a cent at US$2.91 a pound.
