WATERLOO REGION — Region of Waterloo public health reported 40 news cases of COVID-19 on the weekend.
Saturday saw 19 cases announced while 21 were added to the public dashboard on Sunday for a total of 18,658 to date.
Variants of concern cases rose by one on Sunday to 4,911 while active cases remained unchanged at 139. No new deaths were reported. To date, 286 people from Waterloo Region have succumbed to the virus.
Hospitalizations remained steady at 18 with 11 in intensive care while outbreaks decreased by two to five on Sunday.
Current outbreaks are a at place of worship, a retail store, a food processing location, the fourth floor at St. Mary’s General Hospital and at Conestogo Lodge Retirement Residence.
Just more than 84 per cent of residents 12 and over have received one dose of the vaccine while three quarters are fully vaccinated.
