One Degree Organic Foods Inc. has recalled its Sprouted Whole Wheat Flour because the product carries a misleading gluten-free claim, according to a notice posted by the Government of Canada on Oct. 19.
The recall covers 907-gram bags with the UPC 6 75625 10414 5. The affected best before dates are 19 AUG 2027, 01 SEP 2027, 08 SEP 2027, 21 SEP 2027 and 05 OCT 2027.
The flour was sold at retail in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan, the notice said. The recall date is Oct. 16.
The notice classifies the issue as a gluten allergen concern. It is a Class 3 recall, and it does not describe a specific health risk or mention any reported illnesses.
Wheat flour naturally contains gluten, so people who avoid gluten, including those with celiac disease, should not rely on the gluten-free claim for this product. The notice tells Canadians not to use, sell, serve or distribute the affected flour.
Questions can be directed to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 1-613-773-2342 or [email protected]. The full notice is on the Recalls and Safety Alerts site under recall ID RA-82809.
It is the latest in a run of Canadian allergen recalls. Earlier this month, Soup Time French onion soup was recalled over undeclared wheat.
