What is the last day to ship for Christmas in Canada in 2026?
There is no single national date. The earliest deadline among the carriers that have published one is Canada Post’s Dec. 10 for a Regular Parcel travelling between major centres in different regions. The latest is Dec. 23, which both Canada Post (Priority) and FedEx (overnight services) list. Because Dec. 25 is a Friday, a parcel sent on Dec. 23 leaves almost no margin for weather or a missed connection.
Canada Post says its dates are between major urban centres and depend on origin and destination, and FedEx says conditions may change and tells customers to confirm at fedex.ca/getrates. Treat every date below as the last day, not the safe day.
How do the Canada Post and FedEx deadlines compare?
The services are not identical, so the table lines up the closest equivalents. Canada Post dates are for the national zone, as listed in our Oct. 20 guide. FedEx dates are for most metropolitan areas within Canada, for delivery by Dec. 24.

FedEx Economy has a later deadline than Canada Post’s Regular Parcel, but the two are different products with different transit times and prices. Compare quotes, not just dates.
What are FedEx’s 2026 Christmas deadlines?
FedEx Canada publishes a “Last Days to Ship” sheet for 2026. Its dates are meant to get a package to its destination by Dec. 24, 2026, and the sheet does not use the word Christmas. The company says the intra-Canada dates exclude shipments from the Western provinces, including Thunder Bay and the surrounding area, to the Atlantic provinces.

FedEx does not explain why the Ground, Connect Plus and International Ground entries are ranges, so they are reproduced as published. The company says international services do not account for customs clearance and advises allowing extra transit days outside major cities. It says Ground dates assume a regular scheduled pickup or a drop-off at a staffed FedEx location.
Does UPS have a last day to ship for Christmas in 2026?
Not on the pages checked on Oct. 25. UPS Canada’s holiday shipping schedule lists closures and links to a 2026 holiday operations schedule, and neither document gives last-ship dates or peak surcharge details. UPS said its information is subject to change and pointed customers to ups.com for updates. Shippers who use UPS should ask the company or their account representative for a transit-time commitment to their destination.
What has Purolator posted for Christmas 2026?
Purolator’s 2026 holiday service schedule lists statutory-holiday closures but no last-ship dates for any service as of Oct. 25. The page lists Christmas Day on Friday, Dec. 25 and Boxing Day observances on Saturday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Dec. 28, and notes that dates are subject to change. The page contains two domestic tables that do not match on every date, so check it again before relying on a closure.
Purolator has also announced a delivery-time change that matters for holiday parcels in Western Canada. From Nov. 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027, it is moving three morning and midday time-definite commitments one hour later for Express and Ground shipments from anywhere in Canada to Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories. A 9 a.m. commitment becomes 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. becomes 11:30 a.m., and noon becomes 1 p.m. End-of-day commitments are unchanged. Which days are couriers closed over Christmas 2026?
Both Christmas Day and Boxing Day land awkwardly in 2026. Christmas is a Friday, Boxing Day is a Saturday, and employers observe it on Monday, Dec. 28. Provincial rules differ; see our Christmas and Boxing Day stat holidays by province guide.

UPS also said its Canada domestic service guarantees are suspended for several services, including UPS Express, Express Saver and Standard, during the holiday period. Canada Post does not list a Lettermail deadline on its holiday page and says customers sending to remote or northern addresses should ask it to confirm timing.
How early should you ship? A worked example
Say you are sending a gift from Vancouver to a relative in Halifax. Canada Post counts that as a national-zone trip, so a Regular Parcel has to be sent by Thursday, Dec. 10, which is 15 days before Christmas. Expedited Parcel is Monday, Dec. 14, Xpresspost is Tuesday, Dec. 22, and Priority is Wednesday, Dec. 23. FedEx’s Canadian dates exclude Western-to-Atlantic shipments, so the FedEx table above does not apply to this route and you would need a quote from fedex.ca/getrates.
The gap between the earliest and latest Canada Post deadline for that route is 13 days. A shopper who waits for a mid-December sale, such as the ones in our Black Friday 2026 guide, loses the cheapest option before the sale ends.
