Montreal Canadiens rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler was named the NHL’s third star of the week on Monday for the period ending Oct. 25.
Fowler won both of his starts, a 4-1 victory in Chicago on Friday and a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets in the Heritage Classic on Sunday, the league announced, according to the Canadiens’ website.
At 21 years 335 days, Fowler became the youngest goaltender in NHL history to start an outdoor game. He made 33 saves at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, where the Canadiens beat the Jets in front of 32,342 fans.
He has won his last five starts, the third-longest goaltender win streak in the NHL this season. The Canadiens said it is also one of the longest streaks by a rookie goaltender in the franchise since 1986-87.
Fowler’s run has come as the Canadiens have collected points in four straight games and improved to 6-3-2. In Chicago, Jake Evans scored twice in the win over the Blackhawks. Earlier this month, Fowler stopped 30 shots in a shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings.
The Canadiens open a four-game road trip Tuesday in St. Louis.
