Which snow blower should you buy in Canada?
Every machine on this list is electric and single-stage, which means one auger scoops the snow and throws it out of the chute. That suits typical city driveways, walkways and decks. It is the wrong tool for a long rural laneway, a wall of plow-pile snow at the end of the driveway or a Prairie drift. For those jobs, a gas two-stage machine like the one in the photo below is the usual choice, and it costs considerably more than anything here.

Our picks
No. 1, best for most driveways on a budget: Greenworks 13 Amp 20-Inch Corded Electric Snow Blower. At $239 it is the cheapest full-width machine here, and Amazon.ca shows 200+ bought in the past month. Greenworks lists a 13-amp motor, a 51 cm clearing width, a 180-degree adjustable chute and a throw of up to 9 metres. The listing carries 4.1 stars from 4,563 ratings. The trade-off is the cord: you need an outdoor-rated extension cord long enough for your driveway, and you have to steer around it so the auger never runs over it.

No. 2, best corded model with a headlight: Snow Joe Ultra SJ623E. Snow Joe lists a 15-amp motor that moves up to 720 pounds of snow a minute, an 18-inch (46 cm) wide and 10-inch (25 cm) deep cut, a four-blade plastic auger, a 180-degree adjustable chute and a built-in halogen headlight. It costs $339.99 and has 4.1 stars from 5,905 ratings, the largest rating count on this page. A headlight matters in Canada, where many people clear snow before sunrise or after work. It is narrower than the Greenworks above, so you make more passes for the same driveway.

No. 3, best cordless on a tighter budget: VOLTASK 48V 20-Inch Cordless Snow Blower. At $369.99 this is the lowest-priced 20-inch cordless machine we found sold by Amazon.ca. The listing describes a brushless 48V motor powered by two 24V batteries, a dual quick charger, wheels, LED lights and a directional plate. It holds 4.3 stars from 324 ratings, with 100+ bought in the past month. VOLTASK is a younger brand than Greenworks or Snow Joe, and the rating count is much smaller, so the score is less settled. Check the battery runtime and warranty on the listing before you buy.

No. 4, best long-running cordless kit: Snow Joe 48V Cordless Snow Blower Kit (24V-X2-SB18). This kit pairs two 4 Ah IONMAX 24V batteries into a 48V system, with an 18-inch (46 cm) wide, 10-inch (25 cm) deep cut, a 180-degree chute and a throw of up to 20 feet (6 m). It costs $589.98 and carries 3.8 stars from 4,824 ratings, the lowest score on our list. That is a real mark against it, and it is why it ranks below the cheaper VOLTASK on rating alone. We include it because the batteries come in the box and the model has a large base of owners.

No. 5, most cordless power on this list: Greenworks PRO 80V 20-Inch Brushless Cordless Snow Blower. It costs $629.99 and ships with two 2.0 Ah batteries and a charger. Greenworks lists a 1.4 kW brushless motor, a 20-inch (51 cm) width, a 10-inch (25 cm) clearing depth and a throw of up to 25 feet (7.6 m). The listing has 4.0 stars from 3,918 ratings and 100+ bought in the past month. Brushless motors run quieter and need less upkeep than brushed ones, according to the listing. The 2.0 Ah batteries are modest, so a large driveway may need a spare battery.

How we chose. We searched Amazon.ca for snow blowers limited to items sold and shipped by Amazon.ca, then opened each candidate’s listing on Oct. 28, 2026 to record the price, star rating, rating count and the specs the brand publishes. We favoured machines with at least a few hundred ratings and left out small snow shovels, tool-only kits that do not include a battery and models with fewer than 50 ratings. We compared the numbers with the brands’ own pages. We did not test any of these machines, and we could not read written owner reviews on the listing pages, so the star ratings and counts are the only owner signal we use. Ranking reflects fit for the query, not price or commission.
Corded or cordless: which is better for Canadian winters?
Corded machines cost less and never run down mid-driveway, which is why two of our top three are corded. The cost is the cord. You need a heavy-gauge outdoor extension cord, a working outdoor outlet and a plan so you do not drag the cord across freshly cleared pavement. Cordless machines remove that hassle but cost more, and runtime depends on the battery size and how wet or heavy the snow is. Cold also reduces how much charge lithium-ion batteries deliver, so keep batteries indoors until you need them.

How wide and deep a snow blower do you need?
Width decides how many passes you make. A 51 cm machine needs roughly 5 to 6 passes to cover a single 2.6-metre-wide driveway lane, while a 46 cm machine needs about 6 to 7. Depth is the tougher limit. Every model here lists a clearing depth of about 20 to 25 cm, so after a larger storm you clear the snow in layers rather than in one go. If your area regularly gets heavy dumps, wet snow or plow banks, look at a gas two-stage machine instead. Forecasts and winter weather warnings are published by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
When is the best time to buy a snow blower in Canada?
As a general pattern, snow blowers sell fastest on the first big snowfall, so buying in late October or early November avoids a stock-out. Retailers often run winter and holiday deals around Black Friday (Nov. 27, 2026) and Boxing Day, and Amazon.ca runs its own sales. We do not know what discounts will appear, so check the price on the listing the day you buy. The prices in this article were checked on Oct. 28, 2026.
Who should skip these snow blowers
These picks suit people with a one- or two-car driveway, a walkway and a deck. Skip them if your driveway is longer than a typical city lot, if your street plow leaves a heavy bank at the end, or if you regularly get more than about 25 cm of snow at a time. Also skip a corded model if you do not have an outdoor outlet within reach, and skip a cordless model if you cannot charge two batteries in a heated space. Anyone who only needs to clear a few steps should look at our snow shovel picks instead.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best snow blower for a small driveway in Canada?
For a one- or two-car driveway, a 51 cm corded model such as the Greenworks 13 Amp is the best value on our list at $239. A cordless 20-inch machine like the VOLTASK 48V avoids the cord for $369.99.
Is a cordless snow blower powerful enough for Canadian snow?
For light to moderate snowfalls on a typical driveway, the listed specs say yes. Heavy, wet snow and deep drifts are harder on any electric machine, and cold can shorten battery runtime. A gas two-stage model is the safer choice for very heavy snow.
How deep a snowfall can these snow blowers handle?
The listings give maximum clearing depths of about 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10 inches). For deeper snow, clear it in two layers, working from the top down, instead of forcing the machine through a full drift.
Do I need an extension cord for a corded snow blower?
Yes, unless an outdoor outlet sits at the edge of the area you are clearing. Use a heavy-gauge extension cord rated for outdoor use and check the brand’s manual for the recommended gauge and length.
When should I buy a snow blower in Canada?
Late October or early November is the safest window, before the first big storm empties shelves. Deals around Black Friday and Boxing Day are common, but we cannot promise a discount.
