SEATTLE _ Brandon Montour scored from the top of the right circle with 34 seconds left in the third period Wednesday night, lifting the Seattle Kraken to a 5-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Montour’s slapper came 56 seconds after Auston Matthews tied the game 4-4 with 1:30 remaining and Toronto goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on the bench for an extra attacker. Gavin McKenna, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 draft, assisted on the Matthews goal.
McKenna scored on the power play in both the first and second periods for his first two-goal game in the NHL, but the Leafs could not hold on to what they had built.
Chandler Stephenson scored on the power play at 3:33 of the second period to give Seattle a 3-2 lead and added an assist on a goal by Ryker Evans. Berkly Catton and Josh Mahura also scored for the Kraken. Jack Roslovic cut the deficit to 4-3 for Toronto at 8:02 of the third period.
Philipp Grubauer made 18 saves for Seattle. Bobrovsky stopped 12 shots for Toronto.
The win moved the Kraken to 8-4-1 on the season. The Leafs fell to 7-6-2. McKenna has five goals in 15 games, while Matthews has 10 goals.
Seattle visits the Calgary Flames on Friday night. Toronto plays at San Jose on Saturday night.
Earlier, McKenna’s game-winning goal against the Sharks helped Toronto to a 3-1 win, and the Leafs had routed the Edmonton Oilers 7-2 in a previous outing.
