Edmonton is starting Friday with fog patches and a wind chill near minus 13, according to Environment Canada’s forecast for the city.
The forecast calls for mainly sunny skies once the fog dissipates late in the morning. Winds become south at 20 km/h near noon, and the high is plus 2. Edmonton was at minus 5.6 C early Friday, while the temperature at Edmonton International Airport was minus 11.3 C, with a wind chill of minus 18 this morning.
Fog patches are expected to redevelop near midnight, with a low of minus 7 and a wind chill near minus 10 overnight. Saturday is forecast to be mainly sunny with fog patches dissipating in the morning, a light wind and a high of plus 5.
No weather warning is in effect for Edmonton. Drivers should allow extra time and use low-beam headlights in fog, and anyone heading out early should dress for the wind chill. Frostbite risk rises as the wind chill falls, as outlined in our explainer on how fast frostbite sets in.
The cold follows Edmonton’s first big snowfall earlier this week. To the south, Calgary faces flurries and a risk of freezing drizzle this morning. The forecast is posted on the Environment Canada Edmonton page.
